Other spy spoofs such as the Austin Powers series, The Naked Gun and this year's Kingsman: The Secret Service directly skewered the Bond/Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer archetype, but this comedy instead focuses on the espionage support system back in the home office.ĬIA analyst Susan Cooper (McCarthy) regularly saves the suave and slightly dim Bradley Fine (Jude Law) from being knifed, shot and/or blown up by missiles from afar. The writer/director and the A-list actress took on romantic comedy in Bridesmaids and the buddy-cop genre in The Heat, but the hilarious Spy (*** out of four rated R opens Friday nationwide) finds them both at their foul-mouthed best.
